Cursive handwriting? Plus poll...
I was skimming through the PDN today, and just glanced at the Handwriting Doctor's article - it was something about someone who writes in print letters and not cursive. I would have read the article, but as I was already done with breakfast, I deemed PDN reading time to be over as well
But, it got me thinking about the way I have been writing for nearly all of my life thus far. I hate to write in cursive. I hate is so much that I really haven't written anything in cursive since I was forced to learn it in elementary school. I even remember having such difficulty as a 3rd or 4th grader trying to learn such a messy-looking way of writing. I didn't understand why I needed to learn cursive. As a kid (with ADD, no less), learning cursive was a complete drag.
Some people may argue that it was taught to help us write faster. Well, cursive handwriting never allowed me to write faster. In fact, I write pretty damn fast just with print letters. And, do you ever see an application asking us to write in cursive? NO. It always asks us to write clearly in PRINT or TYPE. Why? 'Cause it's more clear to understand and read.
Right now, if someone were to force me to write something in cursive, I honestly would not be able to do it. I threw away such useless knowledge soon after I learned it. The weird thing is, I can still READ cursive, provided the cursive writing is legible.
So, I bring this up because I am concerned about my little Boogie Man. My boy has been certified as having a couple of learning disabilities - mainly fine motor skills - he still cannot write his name like other children his age. So, I hope that his teachers will NOT force him to learn cursive, as my boy is already having trouble just writing in print. I must ask his mummy about this, 'cause she has contact with his teachers and aides.
So, I now bring to you my very first poll! Please vote and let me know what's on or off your mind!

Yo! ^_^
I think I officially stopped writing exclusively in caps around the time I started UOG.
My handwriting can be clear and legible if I took my time to write, but usually the way I write still baffles me :-P
5 year old kids write cursive? Damn...that's young...
