I think I'm courting someone

It's not anyone from Guam. It's not anyone you know. It's actually someone from the Philippines. I never thought I would be courting anybody from there or someplace besides Guam, but...hey man...I'll take love in any way I can get it. I'm getting older. I haven't had a relationship with anyone. I figured this year's the year to try, or at least start looking actively.

I'm not in love with this person...yet...we're just friendly at the moment. It's kind of hard to fall in love via text messages. We have some things in common...he's born in 1979, he's never been married, we have similar tastes in music and entertainment. He's an outdoor type, I'm an indoor type. He smokes and drinks on occasion, and I don't. He's thoughtful and kind so far, and respectful. He speaks a little bit of english, but he's not fluent. He says he loves to talk and socialize, and I'm kind of a hermit, and never the first to initiate conversations with strangers.

How did this happen?

Well, my coworker is engaged to a kuya John from the Philippines. Kuya John's cousin, whom is my object of attention and possibly affection, is Arnold. My coworker is trying to bring Kuya John over here on a fiance visa, and she will marry kuya John this year. Since she knew Arnold was single, she started playing matchmaker with us, and decided to offer me the chance to text and get to know Arnold. I said yes of course, as no other opportunities were present.

And so far it's been nice. It can get frustrating at times...communicating via phones and messages is really nothing compared to actually being together, face to face. So, I'm gonna take a vacation early next year to check him out. If I can save up money also, I'd like to try to get Lasik done at the same time ^_^

Any questions? Comments? Advice?

I must get this off my thoracic cage

Okay....being a nurse can be hard. Especially when you are a female nurse with male colleagues or subordinates. You see, a FEMALE nurse can do just about EVERYTHING to ALL patients, whether they'd be babies, adults, guys or girls. BUT, a MALE nurse has, what I like to call "the opportunity" to not care for ALL patients, and care for only SELECT patients, especially if it is per the request of the patient or family.

What I'm saying is, if there's a MALE nurse trying to give a FEMALE patient some kind of medicine that must be administered in "private" places, the MALE nurse automatically thinks he is exempt from giving it and delegates the duty to a FEMALE nurse, just because she is a FEMALE. Now, I'm talking about a MALE nurse working on my level, as a colleague...and I can understand that it benefits the patient, saves them from embarassment and whatnot...and it's on my level of care, so I am willing to do things like that...

BUT, I have a MALE subordinate working under me - meaning a NURSE ASSISTANT. He does not provide the level of care that I can do, but I can do everything that he does (since I'm the nurse). He is a wonderful person, and we have a good time at work, and on the whole, we are good at working together as a team. BUT, when it comes to him caring for FEMALE patients, he tends to back down from doing basic things - the things that he is skilled to do, and really, is required to do in his job as a nurse assistant. His reason for being is to provide the basic care for patients - feeding them, cleaning them, repositioning them, taking their vital signs - so that I can do MY job - which is to carry out and administer medical treatments ordered by the doctor.

Now, if he can't do a simple thing like help a female patient to wash up a bit in the shower, he automatically waits for me to do it. He knows he is my subordinate, so he doesn't TELL me to do it, but he HINTS at it. Now, I'm busy trying to pass meds on time, change wound dressings, and apply topical ointments, hang IV antibiotics, page doctors on the phone to take orders, and amidst my duties, he expects me to also help my patient to shower?

In my mind, I can't help but think - THAT'S WHAT A NURSE ASSISTANT IS FOR!!! Nurse assistants are supposed to be able to take care of all that basic care and basic needs stuff, so that nurses like me can carry on with our own shit.

The thing that really bothers me is this - he's not the only nurse assistant on the floor - there's another one working, and sure, she has her own patients to care for, but she's a FEMALE, and why can't my MALE nurse assistant ask the FEMALE nurse assistant to shower my patient? Why can't they work out some kind of deal, or be nice and help eachother out? They are at the same skill level, so, to me it shouldn't be a problem.

But no....that doesn't happen, 'cause I guess I didn't make it clear enough to my MALE nurse assistant that I was so super damn busy, and I should've suggested to him to have the FEMALE nurse assistant help him by doing it. I was hoping that he would kind of figure this out on his own, but alas, he didn't. So I ended up doing it.

This is just a professional rant - I have nothing against my MALE nurse assistant - he's a good-guy and I like him a lot, and we are friends...*sigh* I just have to let him know what I want him to do next time...I cannot assume that he will know what to do automatically.

Okay. The shit's been lifted off my thoracic cage. The End for now...

The things I miss, and the things I want

================ The things I miss =================

I've been watching a lot of G4TV lately. On Guam, G4TV is on channel 41, and as most Guam TV is
done, we are usually a week or more behind regular US programming. But anyhoo, there's been lots of interesting things on, namely the FormulaD race competitions (drift races), and lots of episodes of XPlay (a show all about video games - a huge part of my life, I'd like to think - as I like to think I'm a gamer).

Other G4TV shows I like to watch are Banzai, and Barbed Wire. G4 also airs reruns of Star Trek, but I don't care to watch that. I also believe there's an anime program in there late at night, but I can't seem to catch it when I watch.

So, I like these shows, but I miss the shows that this network replaced. Remember the days when we had ZDTV on the same channel? I was just starting to get into computers and technology. I am not a GEEK, but I like to learn. And then ZDTV somehow turned into TechTV - and that's when I really started tuning in for shows like - Call For Help, The Screensavers, and the show that XPlay was previously known as - Gamespot (not to be confused with the game store franchise, Gamestop - I guess that's why they changed the name).

Well, when TechTV went bye-bye, G4TV took over, and it kind of became a gamer-oriented network as a whole, with extreme shows. Gone were my tech-savvy shows, and tech-info shows. Gone were Leo Laporte and Patrick Norton, and Kate (I never remembered her last name). After TechTV fell off the face of the earth, I stopped watching for a long while. Until recently, that is.

I wish G4 could at least go back to including tech-info shows, and not just concentrate on gaming. If they had shows similar to what the Screensavers and Call For Help was, I think a lot more people would tune in - I know I would! I would even hook my PC back to my cable line just to vidcap it!

BUT, G4 is what it is. And I don't know what "G4" stands for anyway. I guess for now, I'll just enjoy the two or three shows that I like from it. And that's it.

================= The things I want ====================

There's lots of bruhaha going on about the PS3. What's that? It's the Playstation 3. I have a PS2. A gaming console I am very proud to own, as it is (1) a Sony and (2) a Playstation. Sony has been able to stay the leader of the console wars for years now, but with the soon-to-be-out PS3, people are thinking differently. People on the net are speculating that PS3 will in fact LOSE the next-generation console war to *screams in horror* M$ a.k.a. Microsoft and its XBox 360 which is already released and getting rave reviews.

Why is this? Well...the main thing driving this war, and the main thing that drives pretty much everything in life - MULA, OKANE, SALAPE, PERA, MONEY. XBox360 came out at an ALMOST affordable price (but still expensive, IMHO). But, PS3 will come out soon for a reportedly whopping figure of $600!!! Now, that's probably not bad, considering what prices we pay for other tech-toys these days. Come on, you know what I mean - the digicams, the cell-phones with mega features plus a camera, the MP3 players like iPods, etc. etc.

So why is everyone bitching about the $600 price tag and why will that cause Sony to lose the war? Well...because the target audience for the gaming industry is usually a younger crowd with not a lot of money in the bank (like me, although I'm getting old...). Plus, that $600 is just the console and a controller. I'm sure there's other bells and whistles that can be added onto it, which, of course, will have to be bought seperately and for additional money. AND, don't forget the GAMES!!! The games themselves will cost more than a PS2 game (from what I've read), as they will be more intense and make use of the PS3 upgraded capabilities, thus enhancing gameplay. So, I can understand that one can easily spend, at the release of the PS3, $1000 bucks easy, for the console/system plus 2 or 3 games. That figure doesn't include any other add-ons for the system.

BUT, as I am a loyal Sony Playstationer, I feel compelled to spend that much to support and play their console. Am I crazy?

Honestly, I fell in love with the very first Playstation console, the original ONE. PS2 was and still is beautiful. I hope PS3 will keep me satisfied. And I don't want Sony to lose out to fucking M$.
