The things I miss, and the things I want

================ The things I miss =================

I've been watching a lot of G4TV lately. On Guam, G4TV is on channel 41, and as most Guam TV is
done, we are usually a week or more behind regular US programming. But anyhoo, there's been lots of interesting things on, namely the FormulaD race competitions (drift races), and lots of episodes of XPlay (a show all about video games - a huge part of my life, I'd like to think - as I like to think I'm a gamer).

Other G4TV shows I like to watch are Banzai, and Barbed Wire. G4 also airs reruns of Star Trek, but I don't care to watch that. I also believe there's an anime program in there late at night, but I can't seem to catch it when I watch.

So, I like these shows, but I miss the shows that this network replaced. Remember the days when we had ZDTV on the same channel? I was just starting to get into computers and technology. I am not a GEEK, but I like to learn. And then ZDTV somehow turned into TechTV - and that's when I really started tuning in for shows like - Call For Help, The Screensavers, and the show that XPlay was previously known as - Gamespot (not to be confused with the game store franchise, Gamestop - I guess that's why they changed the name).

Well, when TechTV went bye-bye, G4TV took over, and it kind of became a gamer-oriented network as a whole, with extreme shows. Gone were my tech-savvy shows, and tech-info shows. Gone were Leo Laporte and Patrick Norton, and Kate (I never remembered her last name). After TechTV fell off the face of the earth, I stopped watching for a long while. Until recently, that is.

I wish G4 could at least go back to including tech-info shows, and not just concentrate on gaming. If they had shows similar to what the Screensavers and Call For Help was, I think a lot more people would tune in - I know I would! I would even hook my PC back to my cable line just to vidcap it!

BUT, G4 is what it is. And I don't know what "G4" stands for anyway. I guess for now, I'll just enjoy the two or three shows that I like from it. And that's it.

================= The things I want ====================

There's lots of bruhaha going on about the PS3. What's that? It's the Playstation 3. I have a PS2. A gaming console I am very proud to own, as it is (1) a Sony and (2) a Playstation. Sony has been able to stay the leader of the console wars for years now, but with the soon-to-be-out PS3, people are thinking differently. People on the net are speculating that PS3 will in fact LOSE the next-generation console war to *screams in horror* M$ a.k.a. Microsoft and its XBox 360 which is already released and getting rave reviews.

Why is this? Well...the main thing driving this war, and the main thing that drives pretty much everything in life - MULA, OKANE, SALAPE, PERA, MONEY. XBox360 came out at an ALMOST affordable price (but still expensive, IMHO). But, PS3 will come out soon for a reportedly whopping figure of $600!!! Now, that's probably not bad, considering what prices we pay for other tech-toys these days. Come on, you know what I mean - the digicams, the cell-phones with mega features plus a camera, the MP3 players like iPods, etc. etc.

So why is everyone bitching about the $600 price tag and why will that cause Sony to lose the war? Well...because the target audience for the gaming industry is usually a younger crowd with not a lot of money in the bank (like me, although I'm getting old...). Plus, that $600 is just the console and a controller. I'm sure there's other bells and whistles that can be added onto it, which, of course, will have to be bought seperately and for additional money. AND, don't forget the GAMES!!! The games themselves will cost more than a PS2 game (from what I've read), as they will be more intense and make use of the PS3 upgraded capabilities, thus enhancing gameplay. So, I can understand that one can easily spend, at the release of the PS3, $1000 bucks easy, for the console/system plus 2 or 3 games. That figure doesn't include any other add-ons for the system.

BUT, as I am a loyal Sony Playstationer, I feel compelled to spend that much to support and play their console. Am I crazy?

Honestly, I fell in love with the very first Playstation console, the original ONE. PS2 was and still is beautiful. I hope PS3 will keep me satisfied. And I don't want Sony to lose out to fucking M$.

I miss TechTV as well ... Wayne and I talk about that every time we watch Xplay. Man, I learned so much from Leo. I also miss Kate hosting Gamespot with Adam... And I was seriously considering buying my brother and my dad Utilikilts after seeing one on Patrick ... but I really wanted one for myself ... *le sigh*

*breaks into song*
"...those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end..."

Utilikilts are super cool :)

I tried to search online to see what became of our good 'ol TechTV crew - it appears that they have or had radio shows per one source, and another source said they moved to Canada to continue on with TechTV programming.

*sigh* no canadian programming here, I'm afraid...
